Ambassador Melba Pria, presented the highest honour conferred by the Mexican government to foreigners for their contributions to Mexico or humanity – Orden Mexicana del Aguila Azteca, on H.E. Mrs Pratibha Devisingh Patil, former President of India.
Mrs Pratibha Patil turned into the main lady President of India in 2007. Amid her residency, she facilitated President of Mexico, H.E. Felipe Calderon on a visit to India – 21 years after the last abnormal state visit among India and Mexico.
At the welcome of the Mexican President, she made a state visit to Mexico in 2008, the primary visit of an Indian President following 24 years, which added to further fortifying the respective connection between the two countries. Amid this visit, significant understandings were marked, remarkably the Convention on Air Transport, an MOU on Cooperation in the field of New and Renewable Energy. Ex-President Patil got the Decoration of the Mexican Order of the Aztec Eagle in the classification of Band in Special Category. Mexico has given honour on 13 Indian nationals.
