New Delhi, 15 March 2019
India and Pakistan had the first negotiation meeting on the Kartarpur corridor connection on Thursday to facilitate the pilgrims to visit Gurudwara Kartarpur Sahib. India is highly determined to activate this route considering the religious sentiments of the Sikh community. Experts from both sides had discussions on various issues concerning the case for the alignment.
It is been reported that the agreement drafting meeting had restrictions from Pakistan’s side, like for instance the number of pilgrims to visit at a time where India demands 5000 entries Pakistan wants to restrict it to 500 a day. The idea was to create a politics-free zone for pilgrims to enter the shrine easily whereas Pakistan has again hindered the case allowing the entry only through a special permit, fee applicable. Also, the entry will be allowed in a group of 15 and not individually.
Next meeting with both the sides will take place on 2nd April.
